Atalanta Sturdy

Original racing and polo images in soft pastel, chalk and charcoal.
In the mid 1980s Atalanta studied life drawing under Patrick Hamilton in Florence and then trained at Gloucestershire College of Art and Technology, after which she obtained a B.A.(hons) in Design for Communication Media at Manchester Metropolitan University.

She was born in Wiltshire. Her father was a racehorse trainer,so riding ponies then horses was a feature of her childhood. Her paintings are inspired by her time spent observing the scene down at the yard, the strings out exercising on the gallops and later racing at various meetings around the country.

This close involvement with the racing world drove a need to capture and record the energy and excitement of the horses in action. Atalanta has lived in both Mexico and Malaysia and is now back in Wiltshire where she paints racing and polo images in soft pastel and chalk and charcoal.
